The Doumbek is also known as darbuka. It is a Middle Eastern drum that is very common in Ethiopia and in Egypt. The bottom is hollow, and the reason for that is not only let the sound come out of the instrument, but, as you strike the instrument, if you insert your hand into the bottom, you change the tone of the drum. The name ‘dumbek’ essentially comes from the two sounds that you can get from the instrument. ‘Dum’, which is when you get a low sound when you hit in the center of the instrument and ‘bek’, when you get a crisp sound when you hit the edge of the rim. Your Alexandria Doumbek with Skyndeep Head is a work of art! It measures approximately 11″ wide x 17.5″ tall, and has a 8.5″ playing surface. The Remo Skyndeep head is tuned with 6 tuning bolts in the collar. Male and female figures are inlayed into a background of real mother of pearl. Design 2 shows a solitary male figure reclining with his hookah. He is attended to by three women, while two others entertain with dance and music. Soft rose and green highlights accent the mother of pearl background which makes your Doumbek a real beauty! Your Alexandria Doumbek with Skyndeep Head comes with an extra synthetic head, a tuning tool, a padded nylon case, S. Kundrats Doumbek Tutor Book for Beginners, and Billy Woods & David Korup s Rhythm Rides for Dumbek Instruction CD. This CD will teach you hand drumming fundamentals and step by step guide in playing the Doumbek. Patterns may vary slightly from drum to drum. All mosaic inlays are delicate. It is not uncommon for small pieces of mosaic to dislodge. This is especially true around the edges and on the collar. With a drums curving surface, this is to be expected. Missing inlay is not considered a defect or blemish. Your drum is unique and small irregularities should just be considered birth marks. Retail Price: $310 Your Price: $257 You Save: $53
